A flock of sheep being lead and cared of by the good shepherd

I am the Good Shepherd

Over the years, there have been a number of times when God spoke to me through music (and I will share them all here soon) but one that really stood out for me was back in 2019. I was at church and the Pastor was encouraging everyone to really seek God with all their heart. The worship team was singing the song Highlands by Hillsong United and in that Holy Spirit-filled moment, while I was immersed in the singing and worshipping, I announced very boldly (and very loudly too but all within my head) “I am coming for you Lord and I’m going to find you!” Yes, it was a very bold declaration on my part but I was a little cheeky about it because I called it out in a lighted hearted jest like playing a game with someone and calling out “you better run, I’m coming for you” and I couldn’t stop smiling because I knew I was being cheeky.

Well, that night I went to bed and woke up with God singing the same song back to me. However, it wasn’t exactly the same song because He changed the lyrics. The original lyrics go like this:

“In the highlands and the heartache
You’re neither more or less inclined
I would search and stop at nothing
You’re just not that hard to find”

But the lyrics God sang back to me in response to my declaration went like this:

“In the highlands and the heartache
I’m neither more or less inclined
I’m the one they call Good Shepherd
I’m just not that hard to find”

It was a gentle lullaby with these 4 lines on repeat, over and over. And as He sang this song back to me, I had this wonderful feeling of a father playing hide and seek with his child. But he is actually hiding in plain sight, (like behind a curtain with his feet sticking out from underneath) because he isn’t really hiding, he actually wants his child to find him –  ready to scoop her up into his arms for the biggest cuddle and laughs.

What I love the most about the whole thing is that God didn’t miss a beat at all – I called out in a light-hearted cheeky way and God responded in His own light-hearted cheeky way! (Good one God! Well played!)
